New COVID Guidelines
If you have ever wondered how long it takes to develop a habit I can tell you it takes fourteen months. Yes, that is how long we have been following a long list of restrictions due to the COVID outbreak. We are so used to having a mask or two with us at all times, we kept our distance from people and we did not have any gatherings or other social events. Now we will have the chance to see how long it takes us to return to the way we used to do things.
The Diocese has issued new guidelines for us in coordination with the easing of restrictions by the state and federal agencies. The timing for us could not be better. More people are returning to Mass and we are running out of room. So in a brief summary, here are the new guidelines that go into effect this coming weekend.
- Social distancing is no longer required.
- For the present, we will continue to have masks and distancing on the west side of the church for those who are not comfortable with the new policies.
- On the no mask side we will be removing the tape so that all pews can be used.
- The Sign of Peace will continue to be no-contact.
- For Communion we will return to the regular procession to the front. Space yourself three feet behind the person in front of you.
- Communion will only be distributed in the hand. No Communion on the tongue at this time.
- We will not be offering the Cup at this time.
- Religious articles and literature will be returning to the Narthex.
- Holy Water will be returned to the fonts.
- We will resume taking the collection by passing baskets at Offertory.
- We will resume using the Offertory procession.
- Funeral bereavement meals can now resume.
- We are no longer required to clean the church between Masses.
- Please return your missalettes! Those missalettes you have been carrying home with you may now be left in the pew for others to use.
As always please respect the people around you. We want everyone to feel comfortable as they rejoin us.
The general dispensation from attending Mass ends June 11, 2021. However, persons 65 and older or those who have underlying health issues should remain vigilant. If you are feeling ill or have a fever you should not attend.
You can watch your email, the parish website and our Facebook page for the latest updates. We hope you will now feel comfortable returning to Mass if you have not already.
